It’s the perfect time of year to be learning about “water” in UPK at Holy Trinity School. At the invitation of UPK teacher, Ms. Samantha McKillop, Ms. Jill Szwed, meteorologist, and Mr. David Miner, the storm tracker driver from ABC’s News10 in Albany, visited with 4 UPK classes on December 14th. Ms. Szwed read a story to the children, Freddy the Frogcaster, by Janice Dean, and answered questions about her work and the weather. The students were fully engaged throughout the event and posed a range of questions from how a storm is created to Ms. Szwed’s favorite things to do in the snow! After the story and putting on their coats and hats, the children were greeted outside by Mr. Miner and Ms. Szwed to check out the storm tracker van. The students were enthralled with the weather station and video equipment and really excited to see themselves appear on the big screen. It was a great experience for the children and the teachers alike. Many thanks to Ms. Szwed and Mr. Miner, the ABC News10 Weather team, and to Ms. McKillop for coordinating the event.
